Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds release Collectors Editions of 4 Classic Albums on Monday May the 16th....

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds announce the latest in a series of re-issues of their classic albums. Let Love In (1994), Murder Ballads (1996), The Boatman’s Call (1997) and No More Shall We Part (2001) — their eighth, ninth, tenth and eleventh studio albums respectively – will come out 16^th May 2011, each as a separate deluxe double-disc Collectors Edition.

 These latest releases are the third set of reissues from a series that will ultimately see Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ entire album catalogue digitally re-mastered and remixed for 5.1 Surround Sound for the first time since their original release.

Each deluxe double-disc Collectors Edition contains the re-mastered stereo album, the new surround mix (in DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1), a specially commissioned short film made by UK artists Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, plus b-sides from the singles, videos and exclusive sleeve notes.

The first three consecutive albums in the re-mastered deluxe edition series — From Her to Eternity, The Firstborn Is Dead, Kicking Against the Pricks — were released in 2009. The next four in the series — Your Funeral…My Trial, Tender Prey, The Good Son and Henry’s Dream – were released last year. All were received with unanimous critical welcome.

The Best Of Aretha Franklin (Quadraphonic)

The Best Of Aretha Franklin (Quadraphonic Coming this August from Rhino Handmade.....Aretha's out-of-print 1973 Quadraphonic album released for the first time ever on DTS DVD! It features four channels of 24-bit, 96 kHz audio (down-scalable to 24-bit, 48 kHz).

It consists of 12 tracks including an extended version of "Rock Steady" and a rare version of "Chain Of Fools"...

Whew....I for one am glad that Rhino has jumped on the Quad-wagon. This release will be a nice complement to to the Chicago Transit Authority Quadtastic presentation of earlier this year...

For its second Quadio release, Rhino Handmade gives “Respect” to one of the greatest singers of all time with a reissue of The Best Of Aretha Franklin, a collection of stone-classic soul music that was released in 1973 exclusively in Quadraphonic. Out-of-print for decades, this music-only DVD features unique quad mixes by legendary producer Tom Dowd that have not been available since the original release.
 
Featuring four channels of 24-bit, 96 kHz audio (down-scalable to 24-bit, 48 kHz), this DTS DVD is to be played in a DVD player with Surround Sound in order to enjoy the Quadraphonic mix as intended. The release does not include a two-channel stereo mix.
 
THE BEST OF ARETHA FRANKLIN (QUADRAPHONIC MIX) contains 12 tracks, including an extended version of “Rock Steady” with music by the Memphis Horns that was cut from the stereo version and can only be heard in this Quadraphonic mix. The disc also includes a rare version of “Chain Of Fools” with an extended introduction. This version was released in stereo in 1995 as part of Rhino’s expanded edition of Lady Soul.
 
These songs spotlight Franklin during her white-hot run with Atlantic Records and capture the singer at the pinnacle of her hitmaking prowess. The collection opens with “Respect,” a song that topped both the Pop and R&B charts in 1967 and went on to become the singer’s signature hit. The disc gathers many of the Queen of Soul’s crown jewels and accounts for no less than eight #1 R&B hits, including “Baby, I Love You,” “Spanish Harlem,” “Don’t Play That Song, “Call Me,” and a cover of the Simon and Garfunkel ballad “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”

Chicago Transit Authority (DVD - DTS - Quadrophonic)

Rhino Handmade raids the vault again to release Chicago's chart-topping debut, CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY in true, discrete Quadraphonic sound for the first time ever. Mastered from early 1970s Quad mixes, the DVD offers unheralded takes on the band's unique fusion of rock and jazz.

CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY rose to the top of the charts in 1969, with 12 unforgettable tracks including the hit singles "Beginnings," "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" and "Questions 67 and 68." The now-classic release also contains a cover of Steve Winwood's "I'm A Man," "Prologue, August 29, 1968" (recorded at the Democratic convention) and an almost 15-minute live take on "Liberation."

The CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY Quadraphonic DVD was mastered using the original 4-track Quad mixes as the source material. The original format of the master was a 4-track, half-inch analog tape running at 15 ips. There is not a separate or "discrete" LFE (subwoofer) track, although one can hear (or not hear) the LFE channel based on what settings one chooses on the integrated amplifier.

This DTS - DVD features 4 channels of 24-bit, 96 kHz audio (down scalable to 24-bit, 48 kHz).

It can be played back two ways: with Bass Management or without Bass Management. Bass Management sends the sum of the low-frequency information (frequencies below 80 Hz) from the four main speakers to the LFE speaker. If your surround speakers are of the satellite variety, you will want to engage Bass Management on your system to hear the full range of the recording. If your surround speakers are the large, full-range type, then we recommend turning the Bass Management off.

David Bowie Young Americans DTS

Editor's note: This DTS disc was rumored last year...its finally out in the UK only...

The zenith of David Bowie's flat-pack soul period, 1975's 'Young Americans' is an incredible and frequently overlooked record. No other Bowie album had spelled out its market so cleanly and crisply in its title. This was an album to be bought at a time when young Americans, after years of mobilising, now had a little disposable income and were ready to party. It was all, supposedly, about "emotional drive." But the album came to represent so much more than that. It is an indirect product of many factors; soul music; politics, both personal and public; sex, drugs and dancing; of downtown New York and uptown Philadelphia.

This special edition CD/DVD includes the original album with 3 bonus tracks one of which is previously unreleased, a brand new 5.1 mix by legendary producer Tony Visconti and 2 performances from The Dick Cavett TV show along with footage of Bowie being interviewed by Dick.

DTS Announces Promotion for Surround Music Titles

Agoura Hills, CA (June 29, 2006)--DTS, Inc. announced that it is reducing prices of all of its catalog of surround music titles, which are produced and distributed under the DTS Entertainment label. Beginning July 2006, DTS is offering all retailers significant product discounts to support the increase in proliferation of surround sound equipment in the home and car.

Based upon the success of a trial discount promotion this spring, the price reductions of up to 60 percent off of current retail prices will be ongoing.

In addition to the price reductions, DTS will support the new pricing with a targeted ad and marketing campaign to introduce the catalog to new listeners, and to encourage current consumers of surround music to take advantage of the discounts.

DTS Demonstrates DTS-HD Master Audio For First Time At CES 2006

Agoura Hills, CA (January 3, 2006)--At the 2006 CES (Consumer Electronics Show), DTS, Inc. will premiere DTS-HD Master Audio, the company's high definition surround sound solution for next generation high definition media. According to DTS, this marks the first public demonstration of high definition video content shown in conjunction with 7.1 discrete channels of surround sound that is bit-for-bit identical to the master soundtrack.

Previously announced as DTS-HD, DTS-HD Master Audio has been selected as an option in the standards for the upcoming Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD media formats. The company will be holding demonstrations of DTS-HD Master Audio throughout CES, January 5-8, 2006 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, North Hall Room #N242.

Presented in 1080p super high definition video, this dramatic demonstration will include clips of major Hollywood feature films, concert videos and music videos seen and heard for the first time in both high definition video and audio. The program soundtrack was produced by Illustrious UK, which combines the talents of Martyn Ware (The Human League, Heaven 17) and Vince Clarke (Erasure, Yaz), who have become two of the most in-demand surround sound producers in the UK today.

Editor's note: This DTS came out some 3 years ago. Now it's being re-re-released with a remastered cd. I won't buy it again...but maybe someone will buy it for the first time. Better yet....put out "Jazz" in multi-fun. Oh well what the hell, Christmas is coming right? Give it to someone......

Queen's 1975 album "A Night at the Opera" will arrive in a 30th anniversary collector's edition Nov. 22 via Hollywood Records. The original CD, best known for "Bohemian Rhapsody," features remastered audio. An accompanying DVD features a DTS 5.1 Surround Sound mix plus track-by-track commentary from Queen's original four members, including archival interviews with the late Freddie Mercury.

Beyond restored versions of the clips for "Rhapsody" and "You're My Best Friend," videos have been created for the other album tracks out of vintage live performance clips and rare photographs.

Queen's reunion tour with Paul Rodgers continues Saturday (Oct. 22) in Los Angeles and will be followed by six Japanese shows later this month and into November.

Real World Records Offers Free Download of a DTS Surround Music Track for the First Time

First Record Label to Utilize a DTS 5.1-Channel Track Download for Online Promotion

TWYFORD, United Kingdom--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 23, 2005--DTS (Digital Theater Systems, Inc.) (NASDAQ:DTSI - News) announces that Real World Records is promoting its new title Moksha by offering a free download of a unique DTS surround music version of the first track of the album. This is the first time that Real World Records has offered a promotional download of a DTS 5.1-channel track, which can be found at http://realworldrecords.com/amjad/.

Fans of the Indian classical music genre raga can easily obtain the seven-minute track from the Real World site by burning the downloaded DTS file onto a CD-R. The CD-R can then be played back in a standard surround sound system with DTS, allowing fans to enjoy the track, by Amjad Ali Khan, for free. The track, "Sandhya," offers an atmospheric surround sound mix by engineer Ben Findlay, who also mixed the live sound on Peter Gabriel's recent tour. Real World describes the composition as having "the age-old flavour of early evening ragas. It's like a twilight moment moving from light into dark, plus an obvious feeling of loneliness."
