Wilson's "Smile," a documentary about the troubled path to one of rock's most celebrated, and mysterious, record albums, was named "Best of Show" during the March 7th awards ceremony in Beverly Hills, California. Wilson made a surprise, rare public appearance to accept the award, and the crowd gave him a standing ovation.
Other winners included Green Day's "Bullet In A Bible" for Best New Concert DVD, the Talking Heads' "Brick" for Best DualDisc, and Bob Dylan's "No Direction Home" for Best Music Documentary.
A panel of entertainment journalists judged the contest, in which music DVDs released in calendar 2005 competed in eight categories.
