THE DOORS ALTER PERCEPTION

All six of The Doors' studio masterpieces will be released on March 27th for the first time as single disc releases, but you can pre-order your copies NOW through The Doors Official Store. The brand new 40th Anniversary mixes have been remastered and expanded to include outtakes and other bonus material. 40th anniversary mixes include The Doors (1967), Strange Days (1968), Waiting For the Sun (1968), Soft Parade (1969), Morrison Hotel (1970), and LA Woman (1971). These new mixes, completed in 2006, are being made available on CD for the first time. Pre-Order your copies of the 40th anniversary mixes today!

All six studio albums are newly mixed as supervised by The Doors and Bruce Botnick, their original engineer/ co-producer. "We want our fans, both new and old, to hear what we discovered on listening to the actual multi-track recordings," says keyboard player Ray Manzarek. "There are background vocals by Jim Morrison, piano parts of mine that weren't used, and guitar stingers and solos by Robby Krieger that never made the original recordings that can now be heard for the first time. We used state-of-the-art techniques to bring these discs to the same sound quality we experienced in the studio when we initially recorded our songs. We invite all our fans to join us in this recreation of the legendary recording sessions of The Doors. And to be a part of our original conceptions."

In addition to the individual albums, there are also special packages available including one featuring all six of the studio albums, and another featuring the studio albums and The Doors By The Doors Book, featuring many rare photos, and the inside story of the band as told by the band members themselves.Ron Wheeler

Editor....a few notes...I wonder if they fixed "Waiting for the Sun"....also; I can now replace my defective self-titled disc that was somewhat diminished by its lack of vocals...these "40th anniversary" mixes are actually the 1999 remixes...most of the videos are mono...no word on a surround treatment of the live album yet...BAD NEWS FOR COLLECTORS WHO SPLURGED ON BUYING-UP UNITS ON EBAY: the first edition of "Perception" sold-out its paltry 20,000 units immediately and was not supposed to be reissued again....ever...let alone as 2 more distinct (destinked?) units...it appears that these "new" reissues are cd only and do not include the DVDs...this time....maybe Genesis (the first set of multi-fun SACDs are scheduled for March 23rd) will get it right..er...

I bought the Perception box set because I wanted to have the original Doors album in high-resolution surround. I would much rather have had it on SACD, but Warner will apparently never release anything on that format even though it seems certain that DVD-Audio is going the way of Super Beta. Owning "The Doors" on SACD is a wonderful thought ... .

None of these companies ever seem to learn anything. They're at it again with HD-DVD and Blu-ray. I'd jump into High Def on disc in a heartbeat if they would just settle on one format.

A few other titles worth mentioning: The import-only "Brothers in Arms"(now there's a great SACD), the few SACD's released on Sugar Hill, Steely Dan's "Gaucho," the two titles by David Elias, and then there's the Telarc catalog.

As for the original Doors album on DVD Audio: the high-resolution sound is much better than any previous version, but one can't really call it "surround". The later albums get progressivly better in the surround department, but the original remains my favorite - surround or not.

These relases are CD only the box set is the only place to get the DVDA mixes for teh moment. One hopes that Warner/Rhino/DMC will see the light of a sold out box set and make single copies available, given all that investment in surround mixes.
