THE DOORS ALTER PERCEPTION

All six of The Doors' studio masterpieces will be released on March 27th for the first time as single disc releases, but you can pre-order your copies NOW through The Doors Official Store. The brand new 40th Anniversary mixes have been remastered and expanded to include outtakes and other bonus material. 40th anniversary mixes include The Doors (1967), Strange Days (1968), Waiting For the Sun (1968), Soft Parade (1969), Morrison Hotel (1970), and LA Woman (1971). These new mixes, completed in 2006, are being made available on CD for the first time. Pre-Order your copies of the 40th anniversary mixes today!

All six studio albums are newly mixed as supervised by The Doors and Bruce Botnick, their original engineer/ co-producer. "We want our fans, both new and old, to hear what we discovered on listening to the actual multi-track recordings," says keyboard player Ray Manzarek. "There are background vocals by Jim Morrison, piano parts of mine that weren't used, and guitar stingers and solos by Robby Krieger that never made the original recordings that can now be heard for the first time. We used state-of-the-art techniques to bring these discs to the same sound quality we experienced in the studio when we initially recorded our songs. We invite all our fans to join us in this recreation of the legendary recording sessions of The Doors. And to be a part of our original conceptions."

In addition to the individual albums, there are also special packages available including one featuring all six of the studio albums, and another featuring the studio albums and The Doors By The Doors Book, featuring many rare photos, and the inside story of the band as told by the band members themselves.Ron Wheeler

Editor....a few notes...I wonder if they fixed "Waiting for the Sun"....also; I can now replace my defective self-titled disc that was somewhat diminished by its lack of vocals...these "40th anniversary" mixes are actually the 1999 remixes...most of the videos are mono...no word on a surround treatment of the live album yet...BAD NEWS FOR COLLECTORS WHO SPLURGED ON BUYING-UP UNITS ON EBAY: the first edition of "Perception" sold-out its paltry 20,000 units immediately and was not supposed to be reissued again....ever...let alone as 2 more distinct (destinked?) units...it appears that these "new" reissues are cd only and do not include the DVDs...this time....maybe Genesis (the first set of multi-fun SACDs are scheduled for March 23rd) will get it right..er...

Grammy Awards 2007

Morphthecat_1 Congratulations to Elliot Scheiner for beating the Lynwood out of Weird Al Yankovic. Last night's Grammy Awards failed to capture any real attention in our household. I really couldn't care less...except for the surround sound category.

BT and Dolby perform live in 5.1

Editor's note: This article just came in from Prosound news. I haven't heard any of the BT stuff in surround so I'm a little curious....have any of you bought into the BT thing and is it any good?

BT, Thomas Dolby Rock EAW Systems

New York (February 6, 2007)--Anyone walking by a club who saw "BT & Dolby" on the marquee might be forgiven for thinking there was a corporate event inside for British Telecom and Dolby Labs, but for those in the know, the BT/Thomas Dolby club tour was December's hippest ticket. The two keyboard whizes performed live across the country in 5.1 surround sound via a system headed by EAW NT Series two-way powered (bi-amplified), DSP-controlled loudspeakers.

Dolby/BT Tour FOH Engineer Scott "Goody" Goodwine at the Mackie TT24 digital console he utilized for his 5.1 surround mix.

The surround concept stemmed from BT's latest CD, This Binary Universe, recorded in 5.1 surround, which he sought to duplicate in the live realm. As plans commenced, Dolby--who appeared on the cover of last October's Pro Sound News--also joined the bill. An interesting caveat is that the stage was also supplied with 5.1 surround mixes, with the monitoring system also utilizing NT Series loudspeakers positioned as wedges.
