Honored for Promotion of the Format Through the Multichannnel
Re-Issue of his Classic Running On Empty
NEW YORK, NY (November 28, 2005) – CMP Entertainment Media, Inc., producer of the Surround Music Awards (SMAs), has announced that Jackson Browne will be the recipient of the 2005 Surround Artist of the Year Award, which will be given at the 4th Annual Surround Music Awards, taking place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on December 15, 2005. The 2005 SMAs are presented by DTS.
Browne is being recognized for his work in promoting the emerging surround sound music format, in particular for his work on the multichannel re-issue of his classic album Running On Empty. The album was released this year by Rhino Records, and was mixed in surround by Greg Ladanyi.
Browne’s career has spawned many hits, including “Running On Empty, “Doctor My Eyes,” “The Pretender,” “Somebody’s Baby,” “Tender is the Night,” and “The Load-Out.” Past Surround Artists of the Year have included Graham Nash, Led Zeppelin, and Beck.
"I believe that Jackson Browne and Greg Ladanyi have produced one of the best 5.1 mixes to date; and this is a release that will raise the bar in the surround world,” says Robin Hurley, Sr. VP of A&R, Rhino Entertainment. “The original album was recorded in a variety of locations (including venues, tour buses, and hotel rooms), and this mix has used the 5.1 format to superb effect."
“Running On Empty is a seminal album, and its multichannel release has been long awaited by surround music enthusiasts,” states Frank Wells, Surround 2005 Conference Chairman and Co-Producer of the Surround Music Awards. “Literally years in the making, the care taken as Jackson Browne guided this project to completion is sure to be appreciated by his audience. As a songwriter and performer, his body of work speaks for itself. With Running On Empty now in surround, this masterpiece can speak with a new voice, with an openness and clarity unachievable in two-channel stereo. For his devotion to his craft, and his exploration of surround, we are delighted to present this well-deserved award to Mr. Browne.”
The Surround Music Awards honor the year’s finest surround music productions, and are part of the Surround 2005 Conference and Showcase, which takes place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on December 15–16, 2005.
